Biography

Claire Berget (born in 1984) is a former student of the École Normale supérieure and teaches English at University François Rabelais, in Tours. After a research project on the viola da gamba in England in the eighteenth century, with a focus on German-born Karl Friedrich Abel's activities in London, she is currently writing a PhD on the imaginary representations of the same instrument in England in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Not only does she practice the viol but she is also interested in viol-making and has so far completed two instruments (a treble viol and a tenor viol). A member of the SEAA 17-18, she has been awarded the Prix de Master 2010 for her work on Abel and the viol.
