Biography

 

Jean-Pascal DALOZ joined the MFO in September 2007, having previously worked in Africa – where he was in charge of the Nigerian and Southern branches of the French Research Institute (1986-1994) – and within the research centres of the Bordeaux Institute for Political Studies (CEAN, CERVL, SPIRIT). He is now CNRS research professor and also holds a professorship at the University of Oslo. He has held visiting professorships and fellowships at the Universities of London, Helsinki, Tampere, Uppsala, Colorado and Washington State.

He is a comparativist specializing in the study of elites, and has a substantial research and publications record in both Comparative Politics and Comparative Sociology (12 books and more than 40 articles published in international refereed scientific journals or as chapters). He is Chair of the ISA Research Committee for Comparative Sociology and, since 2001, has been Executive Secretary of the IPSA Research Committee on Political Elites. He is also a member of the Administrative board of the Mattei DOGAN Foundation and has joined the editorial boards of Political Research Quarterly, Comparative Sociology and International Political Anthropology.

His current research focuses on political actors’ ostentation/modesty and on the comparative study of social distinction.
