Samuel Lussac is a French PhD candidate in International Relations at the Institute of Political Science of Bordeaux ("Sciences Po Bordeaux"). He started his PhD degree in September 2007 and received a scholarship from the French Ministry of Defence in June 2008. His thesis deals with the development of regional cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey regarding oil and gas transportation issues. From September to December 2009, he was a research fellow at the University of Oslo thanks to a grant from the European research network GARNET.
He has been conducting extensive fieldworks in the South Caucasus, in Turkey as well as within the European Union on oil and gas transportation issues. He has participated in conferences and has written on the topic. In November 2009, he notably published a book on the role of the South Caucasus in EU oil and gas supply (Technip Editions).
He is a co-editor of the electronic journal in International Relations Dynamiques Interlationales. He is also a member of the French Association des Internationalistes, of the British research network UACES and of the research team from the Centre of European Studies of Sciences Po on the competition between Nabucco and South Stream gas pipeline projects. He regularly contributes as an expert to media in Azerbaijan and in France (France 24, Telos and Today.az).
