Speaker: Stephen Romer, Poet and Translator

Stephen Romer's poetry collections include Idols(1986), Plato'sLadder(1992), and Tribute(1998). He has translated many French poets, including Philippe Jaccottet,Jean Tardieu, and Jacques Dupin. He has also translated sectionsfrom the Notebooksof Paul Valéry (2002). His latest collection of poetry,YellowStudio(2008), was shortlisted for the 2008 T. S. Eliot Prize. He is alsothe editor of 20th-CenturyFrench Poems(2002) and (with Jenny Feldman) of Intothe Deep Street: Seven Modern French Poets, 1938-2008.Tribut,was published by Editions le temps qu'il fait in 2007. StephenRomer teaches at the University of Tours and has been VisitingProfessor in French at Colgate University, New York. In Trinity term2010 he is a visiting fellow at All Souls College, Oxford. Heregularly writes on French literature and modem poetry for TheGuardianand the TLS.
