Questions about Ancient Scholarship

Christian Jacob is a research professor at the CNRS in the cultural history of Ancient Greece. He works on the history of literary and intellectual practices with regard to the use of books and libraries, the Library of Alexandria in particular. His research on reading, writing and the techniques of intellectual work is interdisciplinary and involves 'Les mondes lettrés', a group of specialists on the ancient Near East, China, Japan, Islam and the European tradition. His latest book is Lieux de savoir, Vol. 1. Espaces et communautés, Editions Albin Michel, Paris 2007.
