Jean-Jacques Lecercle is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Paris in Nanterre. A specialist in Victorian literature and the philosophy of language, he is the author of The Violence of Language (Routledge, 1990), Philosophy of Nonsense (Routledge, 1994), Interpretation as Pragmatics (Macmillan, 1999), L'Emprise des signes (with Ronald Shusterman, Seuil, 2002), Deleuze and Language (Palgrave, 2002), The Force of Language (with Denise Riley, Palgrave, 2004), A Marxist Philosophy of Language (Brill, forthcoming).
