Jean-Pascal Daloz

CNRS Research Professor (Political science)

Jean-Pascal Daloz is a comparativist specialising in the study of elites. His research mainly focuses on the comparative analysis of social distinction and on some symbolic dimensions of political representation.

Research programme(s): Nation and Globalization

Jean-Pascal Daloz joined the MFO in September 2007, having previously worked in Africa – where he was consecutively in charge of the Nigerian and Southern branches of the French Research Institute (1986-1994) – and within several research centres of the Bordeaux Institute for Political Studies. He is a CNRS Directeur de Recherche and has held visiting professorships or fellowships at the Universities of London, Helsinki, Tampere, Uppsala, Colorado and Washington State; from 2005 to 2010, he was also adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo. In Oxford, he is attached to the Department of Politics and International Relations (as Research Professor) and to Saint Antony’s College (as Senior Associate Member).

Jean-Pascal Daloz is a comparativist specialising in the study of elites. He has a substantial research and publications record in both Comparative Politics and Comparative Sociology. He is Chair of the Research Committee on Comparative Sociology of the International Sociological Association and Executive Secretary of the Research Committee on Political Elites of the International Political Science Association. He is also a member of the administrative board of the Mattei Dogan Foundation and has joined the editorial boards of Political Research Quarterly,Comparative Sociology, International Political Anthropology, Historical Reflections, as well as that of the Rulers and Elites series published by Brill.

His research mainly focuses on the comparative analysis of social distinction and on some symbolic dimensions of political representation. 

He is currently working on a new book entitled: Rethinking Social Distinction (for Palgrave Macmillan).

Jean-Pascal daloz is now a member of the Groupe de Sociologie Politique européenne at the University of Strasbourg.
