Photography exhibition: ‘Paul Edwards: Photographic Tarot Cards’

Photography exhibition: ‘Paul Edwards: Photographic Tarot Cards’

03 empress copie

This event is part of the Artweeks festival

An exhibition of photographic tarot cards featuring surreal insects will be on show in both playing-card format and as large prints.
The complete deck of cards accompanies the boxed edition of the novel Mademoiselle de Phocas, published in 2008 by the Ouphopo, a collective of French photographers and pataphysicians. The luxury edition will be in a glass cabinet, to show the extra prints, decalcomanias, humumented texts, drawings, rubber stamps, and so on, that all illustrate the decadent novel.
Other photobooks by the Ouphopo (ouvroir de photographie potentielle, or Workshop for Potential Photography) will also be on display. These playful volumes combine conceptual photography, origami, and speculative texts. Other volumes are facsimile reprints of unjustly forgotten literary photobooks from the nineteenth century. These include photographically illustrated editions of Alphonse Daudet and La Fontaine.

Paul Edwards is a Paris-based literary photographer and academic.
