Neglected for decades, French composer Charlotte Sohy (1887-1955) is now being celebrated as one of the most compelling musical voices of her generation. Join us for a special evening exploring her extraordinary story through film, discussion and live performance, curated by pianist Reiko Fujisawa.

The evening begins with the UK premiere of new documentary « Charlotte Sohy: la consécration d'une compositrice ». Broadcast on France 3 earlier this year, the film has been hailed as “a moving documentary retracing the journey of a woman of immense talent” (Le Parisien) and “a sensitive portrait rich in insightful commentary and musical excerpts”(Télérama).
Post-screening, documentary makers Matthias Weber and Laurence Uebersfeld join music writer and broadcaster Peter Quantrill for a live Q&A. As Sohy’s grandson, director Weber brings a uniquely personal perspective to his grandmother's life, legacy and revival.
Following interval drinks, the evening culminates with a performance of Sohy's enchanting Petite Suite and her richly expressive Piano Trio Op. 24, performed by Gina McCormack (violin), Adrian Bradbury (cello) and Reiko Fujisawa (piano). A passionate advocate for women composers and neglected musical voices, Fujisawa (“A total joy” – The Times) has curated pioneering performance projects throughout her career, including ‘Clara Schumann: Prodigy, Muse, Virtuoso’ at London's Southbank Centre.
