Sylvain Burri is a CNRS research fellow in historical ecology based in the laboratory TRACES (UMR 5608-Université Toulouse). As a historian and archaeologist specializing in the medieval and modern periods, his research focuses on the interactions between human societies and nature from a socio-economic and environmental perspective. His research deals with the management and use of natural resources, the environnemental impacts of human actitivities, and their present-day legacies. At the crossroads of historical ecology and historical ethnobiology, his work is rooted in interdisciplinarity and oriented toward action to help improving the present and future management of forest and mountain ecosystems.
