In this recorded panel discussion, photographers and artists Michael Christopher Brown, Haley Morris-Cafiero, and Stéphanie Hubert reflect on photography and truth in the era of AI.
The session was chaired by Sam McGuire, former Tate Curator of Research and Interpretation, now a doctoral researcher at Cardiff University and a Photo Oxford trustee.

Press the Shutter, Type the Prompt brought together three distinct artistic voices to show how generative AI is reshaping creative practice in very different ways.
- Michael Christopher Brown – 90 Miles Shared how he used generative tools to visualise histories of Cuban migration that could not be captured on camera.
- Haley Morris-Cafiero – What Does an Ideal Employee Look Like? Discussed her use of performance, humour, and AI to reveal the biases embedded in online employment assessment algorithms.
- Stéphanie Hubert – Sleeping Beauty Reflected on blending photography and AI to explore memory, grief, and the invisible traces left by loss. Context:

The event was organised by Goran Gaber, Andrew Cusworth, and Anne-Sophie Gabillas as part of the Channels of Digital Scholarship initiative (Maison Française d’Oxford and Digital Scholarship @Oxford) and featured in the Photo Oxford Festival. Since 2022, Channels of Digital Scholarship has offered a platform for leading scholars and artists from France, the UK, and beyond to present and discuss innovative projects engaging with digital technologies.
