Please tell us about your research project.
My PhD thesis focuses on practices of clothing repair and recording in the late nineteenth century in France and the United Kingdom. Drawing from material sources from museum textile collections and written sources, I am attempting to analyze the places where clothes were repaired, as well as the people and techniques involved. My research therefore combines history of techniques, gender studies, consumption, and material culture.
I work under the joint supervision of Prof. Ariane Fennetaux (Paris Cité University, Sorbonne-Nouvelle) and Prof. Gianenrico Bernasconi (University of Neuchâtel).
Could you please tell us a bit more about your scholarship/exchange programme?
I received a monthly scholarship from the Maison Française d'Oxford, which allowed me to access and consult my written sources at the Weston Library. I am immensely grateful to the MFO for supporting my research and providing access to these resources.
First impressions of Oxford/the University?
Oxford is an excellent place to work, offering a peaceful environment for conducting research. The Bodleian Libraries network provides a rich diversity of resources, both online and physical. I am also impressed by the proximity to nature and parks, where I enjoyed delightful walks.
