Huguenot Memory

With author Nora Baker (Wiener-Anspach Foundation & Université Libre de Bruxelles)

This event will launch Huguenot memory, 1689-1757: Narratives of imprisonment, enslavement and exile, published by the Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment series (Liverpool University Press) in June 2026. Nora Baker (University of Birmingham) will be in conversation with Katherine Astbury (University of Warwick). The discussion will reflect on the act of writing in the wake of a traumatic rupture, and on the modalities of self-expression in the eighteenth century, with specific reference to the Huguenot post-Revocation context.

Biography:

Dr. Nora Baker is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, where she works on the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'French Print in England to 1685'.
