Véronique Decaix is Associate Professor (Maîtresse de Conférences) in Medieval Philosophy at the Philosophy Department of University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (2020).
After an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Lille (2004) and a post-graduate degree in Medieval Studies (2006, University of Fribourg, Switzerland), she received her Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Tours (2013) with a thesis on Dietrich of Freiberg’s theory of intentionality. Her first academic appointment (2013-2014) was associate researcher at the EPHE (Paris). During 2014-2015, she has been 'Researcher' in the framework of the program 'Representation and Reality' (University of Göteborg, Sweden).
Her area of specialisation is Medieval Philosophy, more particularly: metaphysics, theories of cognition and Mind-Body Problem. Her research project is focused on intentionality in embodied cognitive processes (sensation, memory, dream and self-motion).
She currently works on Memory (the process of memory, the distinction between a 'memory' and an image, its relation to time and motion) in the Latin commentaries on Aristotle's De memoria and reminiscentia in the Parisian and Oxonian traditions.
