Please tell us about your research project.
I am a PhD student at the University of Aix-Marseille. I study the sociology of work in nightclubs in Tunisia. I examine an often overlooked dimension of party venues: the labour process. My research thesis aims to understand how the festive nature of the workplace is mobilised to attract employees. This thesis analyses the young recruits' desire for independence in relation to the wage conditions they have to cope with.
Could you please tell us a bit more about your scholarship/exchange programme?
I am in Oxford for two weeks to review English-language literature on the sociology of the labour process, which will help me write my dissertation. It is also an opportunity for me to exchange ideas with my PhD supervisor, Delphine Mercier, who is currently posted at the Maison Française d'Oxford.
First impressions of Oxford/the University?
Oxford is an exceptional and privileged place to study. I feel particularly fortunate to be here and be able to study in the Social Sciences library, which is open until 10 pm.
